School of Respirology Modules in Bronchoscopy 2014

Is bronchoscopy the exclusive domain of pulmonologists or can other professionals such as intensivists also perform bronchoscopy in well defined clinical situations? At VUmc we think that bronchoscopy can be integrated in the daily practice of intensive care specialists. There are many aspects that should be considered however, before bronchoscopic procedures can be performed. Hygiene and disinfection are important prerequisites, as well as sufficient knowledge and skills by all professionals involved in a bronchoscopic procedure. During this course, which is especially designed for intensivists, the participants can obtain the necessary knowledge. During three hands-on sessions there is sufficient time to simulate bronchoscopic procedures with the guidance of experts in a relaxed and friendly environment. This course is therefore a good introduction for intensivists interested in performing bronchoscopy.
